Pitcher A strikes out a batter about 3 in 10 times. Pitcher B strikes out the same batter about 4 in 7 times. Which pitcher is more likely to strike out the batter? Explain.
Write both of these situations as decimal (or percents).
A) 3 in 10 is 3/10 = 0.30, or 30%
B) 4 in 7 is 4/7 = 0.57 (approximately), or 57%
Pitcher B has a much better chance of striking out the batter.
For pitcher A the probability to strike out is 3/10,0.3, or 30% since it strikes out 3 times in 10 times
For pitcher B the probability to strike out is 4/7,0.571428571..., or 57.1428571...% since it strikes out 4 times in 7 times
we can obviously see that 0.571428571... is greater than 0.3 and 57.1428571...% is bigger than 30% so Pitcher B is more likely to get a strike
