Find the value of B - A if the graph of Ax + By = 3 passes through the point (-7,2), and is parallel to the graph of x + 3y = -5.

You can use this fancy website called desmos to graph things.

If it is parallel to x+3y=-5 then it should have the same slope: x+3y, just change the x intercept.

x+3y is equivalent to y=-1/3x

So we graph -7, 2 then we move down using y=-1/3x.

If you do that you'll see that the equation you get is x+3y=-1

3-1=2

Yay!

Slope of x + 3y = -5: 1/3

Equation of line: y - 2 = 1/3(x + 7)

==> 3y - 6 = x + 7

==> x - 3y + 13 = 0

==> 3x/13 - 9y/13 + 3 = 0

==> B - A = -9/13 - 3/13 = -12/13
