I have this problem, and I got the answer \(D\), which apparently is wrong. I don't know why. Here is my explanation:

I think it doesn't give enough information, because what happens if \(x \) is negative? Then the area would increase instead. . . right?

I think the problem implicitly assumes that x is positive, since you're dealing with a physical distance. In that case, the answer would be C.
