A store is selling two different types of trail mix. One type sells for $6 a pound and a second type sells for $5 apound. How many pounds of each type would the store need to mix together to get a 16-pound mixture that sells for 5.15 a pound?
Let the number of pounds of $6/Lb = T
Then the number of $5/Lb =16 - T
6T + 5(16 - T) =16 * 5.15, solve for T
T =12 / 5 = 2.4 pounds of $6/lb trail mix
16 - 2.4 =13.6 pounds of $5/lb trail mix.
