In a recent high school competition, John won the 100 meter dash. His winning time was 8.61 seconds. find his average speed to the nearest tenth of a meter per second.

First of all......John would be the fastest person in the world, leaving the current record-holder, Usain Bolt, in the dust!!!

So we have .......  distance / time  = rate

100m / 8.61 seconds =  about 11.6 meters per second.......!!!!
