In how many ways can a President and a Vice-President be chosen from a group of 5 people (assuming that the President and the Vice-President cannot be the same person)?

There are 5 choices for the president and 4 choices for the vice-president (since there has already been someone chosen for the president).

Once you multiply 5 \(\times\) 4 = \(\boxed {20}\)

we do 5*4=20 becuase the vice-president cannot be the president and the group has 5 people in all and 5-1=4 people left for choosing the vice-president
