40 x 3/8 =15 cards were sent on Wednesday.

40 - 15 =25 remaining cards.

25 x 2/5 =10 cards were sent on Friday.

25 -10 =15 remaining cards, which were sent on Saturday.

on holiday ellie bought 40 cards

40

she sent 3/8 of them on Wednesday

So if she sent 3/8, then they would be multiplied by the number of cards: 40:

40 * 3/8 = 15

2/5 of the remaining ones on friday

Again, this is multiplication:

15 * 2/5 = 6

And I did that totally wrong... I am probably too tired to proficiently answer math questions right now.

Well, I did demonstrate how to get the wrong answer, if that's any use.
