DeShawn's school is selling tickets to the annual dance competition. On the first day of ticket sales, the school sold 1 adult ticket and 2 student tickets for a total of 18 dollars. The school took in 43 dollars on the second day by selling 1 adult ticket and 7 student tickets. What is the price each of one adult ticket and one student ticket?

Hi Guest,

I first listed the facts:

1 adult

2 student

== $18.00

1 adult

7 student

== $43.00

Then I created a system of equations to solve:

1a + 2s = 18

1a + 7s = 43

1a = 18-2s

Substution:

18-2s + 7s = 43

5s + 18 = 43

s = 5

If s = 5, then a = 8

1 Adult Ticket = $8.00

1 Student Ticket = $5.00

Difference between day 1 and day 2 was 5 student tix and 25 dollars      so each student ticket is 5 dollars

    Day 1 was 1 adult and two student for 18 dollars    so an adult costs  8 dollars .
