A bee flies at 12 feet per second directly to a flowerbed from its hive. The bee stays at the flowerbed for 13 minutes, and then flies directly back to the hive at 8 feet per second. It is away from the hive for a total of 15 minutes.
a. What equation can you use to find the distance of the flowerbed from the hive?
b. How far is the flowerbed from the hive?

15 - 13 = 2 minutes x 60 =120 seconds that the bee spent flying back and forth.

a - Distance = Time x Speed

Time =Distance / Speed

D / 12  +  D / 8 = 120, solve for D

b - D = 576 feet from the hive to the flowerbed.
