number of 2x2 squares that contain the black square  =  4

number of 3x3 squares that contain the black square  =  4

number of 4x4 squares that contain the black square  =  4

number of 5x5 squares that contain the black square  =  1

 

 

I counted a total of  14  squares that contain the black square.
