2^t = 38       take the log of both sides

log 2^t  = log 38        and we can write

t * log 2  =  log 38      divide both sides by  log 2

t =   log (38) / log(2)   ≈  5.2479

Note, Phoenix.....this implies that any exponential equation in the form  a^t = b    will have the solution of   log b / log a   .....!!!!

Thank you for helping me and explaining the process! With these log based problems, sometimes I have a hard time remembering. cheeky
