Hi Hayden,
So I'm obviously not Melody, but I'll try to explain it:

Melody wrote:

So basically, she's explaining that the reason the C (cakes) can be replaced by 4B (buns) is b/c the problem states that each cake cost 4 times as much as a bun.
If you replace the C with 4B, you would get this equation:
4B + 5(4B) = 36
Multiply it out:
4B + 20B = 36
Add it:
24B = 36
Now divide both sides by 24 to get the price for one bun:)
