500 people are asked to name their favorite color. The results of this survey are shown in the pie chart below:

Each sector of the pie chart makes an angle at the center. For example, the yellow sector makes an 18 degrees angle, since 18 degrees is 5 percent of 360 degrees.

Which sector makes an angle closest to 40 degrees? (Your answer should be a color word.)

If we consider ONLY the people who named a rainbow color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple), what percentage of those people preferred red?

use the data from problem part 1

Considering the "rainbow" colors, the percent who preferred red can be found thusly :

Red = .13 * 500 = 65

Orange = .04 * 500 = 20

Yellow = .05 * 500 = 25

Green = .15 * 500 = 75

Blue = .16 * 500 = 80

Purple = .12 * 500 = 60

So..... the % that preferred red is

65 / [ 65 + 20 + 25 + 75 + 80 + 60 ] =

65 / 325 =

1 / 5 =

20%
