Note that if we have "t" number of shirts and they cost $30 each.....the total cost of these shirts is just cost of each shirt * number of shirts = 30t......and 2.75 represents what is known as the "fixed cost"....we must pay this cost no matter how many shirts that we order....so......the total cost of ordering "t" shirts is just 30t + 2.75
Now...to find the cost of ordering 5 shirts......just sub "5" in for "t" and evaluate.....I'll leave this to you, NSS....send me back your reply
For the second one....this is just a proportion
306 / 8.5 = M / 9.1 where M is the number of miles that we're trying to find
Cross- multiply
9.1 * 306 = 8.5M divide both sides by 8.5
9.1 * 306 / 8.5 = M ....and I'll leave it to you to find this....
The second one is "C"......you have the correct numerical answer for the first.....but look at the function that you have chosen, 2.75t + 30.....are we paying 2.75 for each shirt????....or ....are we paying $30 for each shirt????
Note if we used 2.75 (5) + 30 we would only get $43.75
Isn't the correct answer for the second one, "D".....????
30t + 2.75
30 (5) + 2.75 = 152.75
Oh!! my mistake, I thought I put D and C for the choices.. that's why i was confused
