The numerator of a certain fraction is 5 less than the denominator. If 3 is subtracted from the numerator and 2 is added to the denominator, the resulting fraction is equal to one half. What is the original fraction?

What your Q describes is

(d-5)/d    is the original

now subtract 3 from numerator and add 2 to the denom   then = 1/2

(d-5-3)/(d+2) = 1/2        now solve for d     then the origianl is     (d-5)/d      cheeky
