Hi,

 

The graphs of x^2-2x+y^2+10y=0. Find the radius of this circle.

 

We can start this off by completing the square to get it into the general formula,

[(x-1)^2-1] + [(y+5)^2-25] = 0

(x-1)^2 + (y+5)^2 = 26

the formula for the graph of a circle is...

(x-h)^2 + (x-k)^2 = r^2

r^2 = radius^2

r^2 = 26

r = sqrt(26)
