8 males and 8 females applied for a job to the same company. If the company is hiring 4 people from 16 applicants (8 males and 8 females), what is a possibility that a company will hire at least one male and one female?

Probability of selecting all males: pm = (8/16)*(7/15)*(6/14)*(5/13) = 1/26

Similarly, probability of choosing all females: pf = 1/26

Hence probability of not having all males or all females (i.e. at least one male/female pair): p = 1 - pm - pf = 12/13
