How do you know that x2-10x=8 is a quadratic equation?

0

Because it is of the form  ax^2 + bx +c = 0

Re-arranging your equation:

x^2-10x-8 = 0    a=1   b = -10  c = -8

so we can say it is because it has three terms?

No...'c' could be 0

Because it is of the form  ax^2 + bx +c = 0

all it needs is to be degree 2   (one term is squared) , as in x^2
