Simplify the following:
(12 y^3 - 6 y^2)/(2 y - 1)

Factor common terms out of 12 y^3 - 6 y^2.
Factor 6 y^2 out of 12 y^3 - 6 y^2:
(6 y^2 (2 y - 1))/(2 y - 1)

Cancel common terms in the numerator and denominator of (6 y^2 (2 y - 1))/(2 y - 1).
(6 y^2 (2 y - 1))/(2 y - 1) = (2 y - 1)/(2 y - 1)×6 y^2 = 6 y^2:

 6 y^2
