Calculate 8^1/3

This solely depends on what you meant by that notation.

 

If you meant \(\dfrac{8^1}3\) then it's 8/3.

 

If you meant \(8^{1/3}\) then it's 2.

 

Or maybe you can use a calculator, so you don't need to wait for people to reply.

so it is basically \(\sqrt[3]{8}\) and that equals 2 sinc 2*2*2=8

Hi Dm,

 

8^1/3   is best expressed as 8^(1/3)               

 

8^(1/3) =    \(\displaystyle 8^{\frac{1}{3}}=8^{1/3} = \sqrt[3]{8}=2\)

 

 

 

You need the brackets because otherwise 8^1/3 really means   \((8^1) /3  = 8/3 = 2\frac{2}{3} \)
