2x-2 = 4x+6

 

Subtract 2X from each side, because you want X's to be on one side and numbers on the other.

 

-2 = 2x+6

 

Subtract 6 from both sides.

 

-8=2X

 

Divide both sides by 2 to get X by itself.

 

x = -4
