A square in the coordinate plane has vertices at $(0,0)$, $(1,0)$, $(1,1)$, and $(0,1)$. A line with slope $5$ splits this square into two regions with equal area. What is the $y$-intercept of this line?

First graph the points to see your square.... a line of any slope must go through the point   1/2 , 1/2   to separate the square into equal areas

y = 5x + b    sub in the 1/2 1/2 point

1/2 = 5(1/2) + b

      b = -2

Here is a graph:
