Here is a thread where you are invited to express your views on the new forum.
In particular I would like positive things as well as constructive criticisms.
I will start.
Positives:
1) I really like the new improved grid feature that is available to us when we are making posts.
2) I like the new auto save feature.
3) I like that the calculator has now been put back into the new forum.
4) I like that I can see that someone else is already composing an answer.
5) I really like that that the saftey notice has been added beneath private messages that are being written.
6) I likethe credits that have been added to the bottom of the page. Thank you.
Negatives:
1) It has been bought to my attention that people are having trouble logging on.
Here are 2 members who talk of this problem.

http://web2.0calc.com/questions/what-is-happening-wrap-4#r22 (By CPhill)
2) We need to be able to view a member's post, including our own, via their member page.
At present we lose posts even though they may only be a few hours old. We even lose our own answer posts.
They can be impossible to find even after only a few hours.
It is very important that we are able to search for posts, and searching via member is the most basic and most important post that there is.
Here another member comments on this:

3) I have found the new search function to be almost useless. Instead of searching our forum it goes off and searches the net.
There are many great search engines available to search the net. We do not need another one.
We do however need a search feature that will search our own forum very thoroughly and efficiently.
The old web2.0calc search function used to be quite good.
4) The new forum special character set is not comprehensive. There are a number of basic features missing .
Like the integral sign for example. The old character set was far more comprehensive.
5) We need a received mail box and a sent mail box in our private meassages.
If I do not answer a message as soon as I receive it, it can be lost for all time.
I do not always remember which child I need to respond to.
6) We cannot delete old messages.
Both individual deletion as well as multiple selected deletion (with a tick a box feature) would be very desirable.
7) We used to be able to delete sent private messages that was not collected yet.
This was fantastic, would it be possible to reinstall this feature?
8) When I put threads onto my watch list I often end up with 2 copies of it on the list. When I delete one then they both disappear. This is a concern to me because I know I can only have a certain number of threads on my watch list. (I don't know how many) and I am afraid that my older ones will fall off the list.
9) There are several problems with the LaTex. The worst one is that it can be difficult to edit and impossible to edit if the post has already been published. (I am not sure if this is an intermittant problem but it is certianly very common.)

(This is a member post commenting on this problems.)
Also, if someone has only answered in LaTex it is impossible to jump into their answer from the answer list.
There are other LaTex problems as well but they are less of a concern.
Ok they are my main points I think:
Would anyone like to add things, or comment on what I have said?
Agree with Melody about the more comprehensive character set.......the old one was WAY better.
I also like the Autosave feature, but the "Preview" feature is unnecessary, IMHO.......it's an added step.....why not have the option to preview - if you want it - and just have another "button" to submit the answer, as is ??? [ retaining the ability to edit as many times as you wish after submission, of course.....]
I do agree with CPhill's last point. My computer is very slow to load and the preveiw step is usually unnecessary.
Plus it makes it that I sometimes leave a page thinking that I have posted when I have not.
I do like having the option of a preview but there should be an "immediate post" button to the right of it as well.
Dont know if it used to be like this, but having a preview for the latex code that you type out has definitely got to be the best feature here
I'm not sure if this was ever a thing, but I'm pretty sure on the old forum you could click on a user and then you could click on, for example, their answers, and see all the answers they have ever posted. I think I remember once using it to copy and paste an answer I had put a while ago to a question that asked the same thing, something about "how to do fractions" and it was very helpful. Either that, or I had bookmarked the URL :) Anyway, I think it would be helpful and fun to look back at stuff. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to do this though.
Oh and another thing was if we could be able to edit our answers? I tend to sometimes do something wrong, a simple thing like forgetting a number on accident, for example I mean to type -17 but instead type -7. Or, I just forget how to do a simple equation and do it wrong, but I want to edit it to fix it so the person doesn't get confused. I think being able to edit our answers would be nice because I personally don't like putting another answer just to fix a small thing :P
Hi Saseflower,
Thanks very much for adding your concerns here. I really appreciate it.
The point you make in your first post #5 is extremely important.
We need to be able to find our own posts and other people's post. It is extremely important for the effective runnig of the forum. Hopefully we will get this function back again soon.
Except for the access problems that some people are having it is the BIGGEST concern to us.
-----------------------------------
Your second point #6
You can still edit your posts :)
Press the little downwards arrow that is to the right of your post number For example #6
and you will get a drop down menu. Edit is one of the choices
Oh thank you! I think why I put that is because for some reason, sometimes the arrow shows up and sometimes it doesn't? I'm not sure if that's just me, but I've noticed that, because I just checked for the arrows just now, and a few were there for some of my answers but a few weren't. Do you know why?
Agree with saseflower......the ability to pull up our old posts was a plus.......I was looking for an old answer that Alan gave to a problem......alas......no dice !!!!
Saseflower sent me this by private message to show me how the down arrow for the drop down edit menu is not always displayed for her. Thanks Saseflower, I can see that what you say is correct :))
I'm not sure, but saseflower's problem might be that the info on her screen appears to be running off the page.......if she holds down the "Ctrl" key and then hits the " - " key next to the "plus/minus" key on her keyboard, it will reduce her screen size and the dropdown menu may appear.....
I tried what you said CPhill, and it still isn't there, but that was a great idea! :)
P.S. When I zoomed out, I really zoomed out and it startled me! :P
Riddler is having the same trouble as Saseflower.
They both say the box with the triangle for editing etc does not (always? ) exist on their posts.
So that means they cannot edit.
Riddler's thread.

We cannot post pics today. :((

I have noticed that my I cannot get to some things. For example, I press add to watchlist and it say something like- OOPS, cannot access this page.
Other than that it's perfect
