OK... I need an example... so we will use the example: 2(9 + 4)

To break it down you need to do 2(9) + 2(4). You would do 2*9 (which equals 18) and you would also do 2*4 (which equals 8).

That leaves you with 18 + 8... If you were doing the whole problem you would do 18 + 8 but since you only asked how to do the distributive property. I won't get into that.
