the label on a 4L can of paint says that the contents will cover an area of 40m. How many cans are neede to paint the walls and ceiling of a room 7.5m long, 5m wide, and 2.5m tall?

7.5x5 = 37.5 m^2     = area of ceiling

 

TWO walls are 7.5 x 2.5

TWO walls are 5    x 2.5      Assuming there are no doors or windows, the total is

 

37.5   + 2(7.5 x 2.5) + 2 (5 x 2.5)  =100 m^2       ONE can covers 40 m^2    so you will need MORE than two cans so the answer is THREE cans   ...in reality TWO would probably work due to windows and door(s) in the room
