How do you divide negative inequalities?

Take a look at this

Using the example that you provide it.

Do the same thing as if you there was an equal sigh instead of a greater than sign. 

So first you have too divide each side by 2 on the problem. 2y = 14

                                                                                     2  = 2 

                                                                                     y  = 7 

                                                                                     y  > 7

 

So that is how you solve that problem. So you can use the equal sign as a replacement.
