How to write results down in scientific notation?

569.420

Write it with just one non-zero digit in front of the decimal point    5.69420

now get the point here I had to jump it over the 9 and over the 6.  

 so i had to jump it over two digits.  So the exponent is 2

NOW 569 is a big number (bigger than 1) so he exponent is positive

569.420=5.69420×102

 

If it had been a little number then the exponent would be negative :)
