I gotcha.

 

-    So you start with: 

 

4^2 / 2 + 12 - (2x3) x 1

 

-    Simplify the 4^2 and (2x3)x1 to get:

 

16/4 + 12 - 6

 

-    16/4 equals 4 so put that baby in:

 

4 + 12 - 6

 

Simple adding and then BAM:

 

10

Theres one slight problem with your answer. It should be 4^2/2=16/2=8, not 4.

 

So, with the change, the total becomes: 8+12-6=20-6=14.
