Two long strips of paper are each 2 inches wide, and they overlap so that the angle between the strips is $30^{\circ}$. What is the number of square inches in the area of the parallelogram formed by the overlap?

I got 4 but it was wrong...

Drop a line from intersection

  sin 30 = opposite/hyp

      .5  = 2/hyp

     hyp = 2/.5 = 4     = side lengths of parallelogram

           height = 2

 

4 x 2 = 8 in2
