15x + 10y = 5                (2)  

 

Subtract 5 from both sides of (2)          15x + 10y – 5 = 0       (3)   

Multiply both sides of (1) by 1.25          15x + 10y + 5 = 0       (4)

Subtract (4) from (3)                                            –10 = 0  

 

Answer to problem   no solution   because –10 does not equal 0.   .
