If 1 = 4, 2 = 8, 3 = 12, etc, what will the equation be?

What is the equation for? If the next part is 4=16 then these are all multiples of 4.

equation probably 4x 

1=4 ;(1*4=4)

2=8 ; (2*4=8)

3=12; (3*4=12)

4=16; (4*4=16)
