5y=8x+8 and 7y= -8x+16.

What is there intersections?

Rearrange  as

-8x + 5y  =  8

8x + 7y =  16

This works out  nice and neat....add the two equations

12y = 24     divide  both sides by 12

y  =24/12    = 2

And using  either equation

8x + 7(2)  =16

8x  + 14   = 16

8x  =  16 - 14

8x  =  2

x =  2/8    =  1/4

The intersection is   ( 1/4, 2 )

When the system shown below is solved graphically, how many ordered pairs will be in the solution set?          15x + 3y = 6    and     2y = -10x + 4

Trick question

15x + 3y   =  6     divide through by  3

5x  + y   =  2

And

2y  = -10x  + 4   rearrange as

10x + 2y   = 4    divide  through  by 2

5x + y   = 2

The lines are the same !!!.....the number of "intersection" points is  infinite
