is 2x+2+4 equal to 4x+8?

Definitely not!

 

2x+2+4

well 2+4=6    You have always known that  

so we have      

2x+6

Now when you are adding or subtracting terms, the terms have to be 'like terms'

They have to have the same letter, those letters have to have the same powers, it doesn't matter about the order.

When adding and subtracting with letters it is often easier if you think of the letters (or combinations of letters) as things

So think of x as xylophones

You have 2 xylophones and the number 6.

Well what is the easiest way of saying this.

Umm   there is no easier way of saying it.    You have 2 xylophones and the number 6.

So the answer is    

2x+6           or              6+2x

those two are the same
