How does one prevent the iPad keyboard from popping up when entering numerals ?

But this happens on my Kindle Fire HD.
What you have to do on Kindle (may work for iPad) where the keyboard is, you swipe the bottom at the bottom of it (not to the top just a bit) until a tab appears. There should be (well for kindle) a button to go home, back to the last thing you were on, or to take off keyboard from the screen.
