4 and 8 don't go into 10

The next multiple of 10 is 20.  8 doesn't go into 20

The next multiple of 10 is 30.  4 and 8 don't go into 30

The next multiple of 10 is 40.  4 and 8 both go into 40. Hence the LCM of 4, 8 and 10 is ...

first....factor each number into primes

4 = 2^2

8 = 2^3

10  = 2 * 5

To find the LCM....take the product of each unique factor along with its highest represented power...so we have

2^3  * 5    =

8 * 5   =

40
