The equation of the line that passes through the points (-2,0) and (0,8) can be expressed in the form y=mx+b. What is the value of m+b?

calculate the slope   (y--y2)/(x1-x2)           (8-0)/(0 - - 2) = 4

use one point to produce line the in point-slope form

(y-8) = 4(x-0)          re-arramnge to y = mx+b form

y - 8 = 4x

y = 4x+8       m = 4   b = 8

@Guest: The problem is asking what is m+b, not m and b. In addition of your post as you stated that m is 4 and b is 8, 4+8=12

Exactly.......I was under the impression that the poster was able to add m + b to complete the answer,  Knucklehead.
