The Green Goober, a wildly unpopular superhero, mixes paint 3 liters of yellow paint 5 liters of blue paint to make 8 liters of special green paint for his costume.
Write an equation that relates y, the amount of yellow paint in liters, and b, the amount of blue paint in liters, needed to make the Green Goober's special green paint.
What is the equation for this?
I'm not sure if I read this correctly, but let me try to help you.
We can reword the question above as '3+5=8'. Now, replace 3 and 5 with y and b. What do you get? y+b=8.
y = 3/5 b perhaps?
Answers like this tend to be like 2-0.25t, all I know is that all numbers and letters have to be used.
I gave up on the question and looked at the answer. Somehow it was y = 0.6b. I have no idea how they did that.
Take a look at EP's post...
Now, think about why 3/5 (which is 0.6) is needed...
As you see, it is the ratio between blue and yellow paint. So, 3/5 of 5 is 3, which means the yellow paint is equal to 3/5th of the blue paint.
Play with some numbers to see how this works!
