Here's the math problem:
A bus driver filled up 7/8 of her fuel tank for a trip. She used 6/7 of the fuel by the end of the trip. The capacity of her tank is 70 gallons. How much fuel did she use for the trip? Express your answer as a decimal.

Don't use algebra, I haven't learned it.

She used 6/7 of 7/8 of 70 gallons

= 6/7 x 7/8 x 70 gallons

are you allowed to use a calculator to work it out?

If not this is how it is done.

It is all multiply so we look for things that we can cancel
There is a 7 on the top and a 7 on the bottom they can cancel out.
so we have
6/8 x 70/1 gallons
cancelling again i get
3/4 x 70/1
and again
3/2 x 35/1
(3 x 35) / (2 x 1)
105 / 2
52.5 gallons or 52 and a half gallon.

Sergio walked to and from school 3/5 of the days in one month. He got a ride to school on 7/8 of the remaining days. On the one remaining school day that month he stayed home with a cold. How many school days were there that month?
