Erica bought an assortment of t-shirts. 2/5 of the t-shirts were blue. 1/2 of the remaining t-shirts were red. There were 9 white t-shirts. How many t-shirts were there altogther?
ok.
2/5 were blue so that means 3/5 is left.
1/2 of 3/5 = 3/10 so 3/10 of them are red
which also means 3/10 of them were white.
if x was the # of t-shirts, then
\(\frac{3}{10}x=9\)
\(3x=90\)
\(x=30\)
we can check this by doing 2/5 * 30 = 12
3/10 * 30 = 9
and white = 9
\(12+9+9=30\)
