first find out how many there are:

1/2 x 32 + 5 = 16 + 5 = 21

21 = how many are not plain

32-21=11.

There are 11 plain popcorn balls. this means that the chance of choosing a plain is \$\boxed{\dfrac{11}{32}}\$
