Allow me to clarify, rule #1 is whatever you do to 1 side you do to the other so, to solve this equation, you must set it up a 5 = 8 + y. First we must get the Y by itself so in order to do this we must eliminate the 8 so, using the rule, we must now subtract 8 from each side ( Since 8 - 8 = 0 aka eliminated ) So, 5 = 8 + y
-8 -8
-3 =(eliminated ) y
So all we have left is -3 = y which gets us our answer but if you want me to put it in terms more basic it would be y = -3, you can prove this by adding 8 to y ( -3 ) and seeing if you get 5, if you do both sides are equal so your overall answer is Y = -3.
Hayley......I think they want you to solve the equation for "y"...........I'll let you take this one.....
Oh! my bad, I had, what people now call it " a blonde moment."....
5=8+y
we want to get "y" by it's self, Yes? YES :)
So, What I think we do is...
minus 8 from 5, which will give yea...
-3,
Divide y by -3 and you get..
Y=-3
:D
