Ursula has 1/2 cup of butter. She uses 1/4 cup of butter to make a batch of brownies.

Part A: How many batches of brownies can Ursula make with 1/2 cup of butter? (4 points)

Part B: On your own paper, draw a fraction model that shows the total number of batches of brownies that Ursula can make with 1/2 cup of butter. Make sure to label the model. Below, explain your model in detail to describe how this model visually shows the solution for Part A. (6 points)

She will be able to make 2 batches of brownies. If she has 1/2 cup of butter and the brownies take 1/4 cup,

we just need to see how many 1/4 are in 1/2.

This is a division problem.Therefore, we have 1/2 / 1/4

To do this, we multiply 1/2 by 4 and get 4/2 or just 2.

For your model, you could divide a square into 4 parts and show that it takes 2 of the 1/4 parts to make a 1/2.
