As we know, the formula for calculating slope is the change in y over the change in x, in other words, y/x. However, in cases where we can not graph, (Like this one) we use the formula y2-y1/x2-x1, we divert the first coordinates as: (-6,1) -6 = x1 1 = y1 If you notice you will see that in this problem, they don't give us the second pair of (x,y) coordinates, thus, we can form 2 equations and solve them. y2-1/x2+6 = -1/2 y2-y1 = -1 We have a system of equations now, and we just solve normally: We get that: y2 = 0 y1 = 1 x2 = -4 x1 = -6 The formula for this final equation of slope would be: 0-1/-4+6 = -1/2, this statement is true. From here, I expect you to easily find the equation of the line.
