area of square   =   ( side length )2

 

And the side length is the length of the line segment between  (-7, 2)  and  (0, 8)

 

By the Pythagorean Theorem,

 

( side length )2   =   ( 0 - -7)2  +  (8 - 2)2

 

( side length )2   =   72  +  62

 

( side length )2   =   49 + 36

 

( side length )2   =   85

 

And again       area of square   =   ( side length )2

 

We just found that     ( side length )2  =  85     So...
