Mary had $488 more than Rachel at first. After each girl spent the same amount of money at a shop, Rachel  had  3/5 of her money left while Mary had 6/7 of her money left. How much money did they have left altogether?

This question needs to be corrected!!!

Mary had $488 more than Rachel at first. After each girl spent the same amount of money at a shop, Rachel had  3/5 of her money left while Mary had 6/7 5/7 of her money left. How much money did they have left altogether?

Mary had => 488 + x             Rachel had => x

After each girl spent the same amount of money, they were left with:

Mary => 5/7(488 + x)             Rachel => 2x/5

Amount of money each girl spent:

Mary => 2/7(488 + x)              Rachel => 2x/5

2/7(488 + x) = 2x/5

x = 1220

They had left altogether $ 1952
