If you have f(x) the way to find local minima and maxima is to

1) find df/dx(x)

2) solve df/dx(x)=0

3) find d 2f/dx 2 and evaluate it at each of the roots of df/dx(x)=0

4) local minima are those points solving df/dx(x)=0 for which d 2f/dx 2 is positive

5) local maxima are those points solving df/dx(x)=0 for which d 2f/dx 2 is negative

Rom is right (of course)
Just putting it a slightly different way
you find the y values at the 2 end points
you find any maximum or minimum points within the boundaries (y'=0)
you find the y values at the max or min points.

The smallest y is the min and the largest is the max.
