Miriam took a survey, asking each family in her neighborhood how many pets they have. She made a bar chart showing the results:
What is the average number of pets per family?
Sum of (number of families * number of pets per ) / number of families = average
( 6(0) + 3(1) + 3(2) + 6(3) + 1(4) + 1(5) ) / 20 = 1.8 pets
(0+1+2+3+4+5)/6 = 2.5
The average is 2.5 pets per family!
