Are you talking about the annual world production of rice which is an number that was given in the question?
What should that number have been?
The student gave an incorrect value for the annual production of rice 32,000,000,000,000 Kg (32,000,000,000 Metric tons).
About 670 Million Metric Tons of rice are grown annually (2010) sagevfoods.com/MainPages/Rice101/Production.htm?
Your math is correct but the data is wrong.
670,000,000,000 Kg Rice / year. 47.8 times less than posted. So it would take 2,4616,405 years to grow (a mole of rice grains) -- an ocean of rice.
Not sure where the 10.8 years came from. It might be all the sake (rice wine) we were sampling. That is what led to a googling for rice and to your form. We hope it did not cause a distraction.
