Next Sunday is mother's day, but where should the apostrophe go in that title? It appeared as "Mother's Day" 14 times and "Mothers' Day" 12 times. What percentage of those entries was the apostrophe BEFORE the 's' ?

I would go with "Mothers' Day" because it is a celebration of ALL mothers, not just yours or mine.
