If Larry worked \(41\frac{1}{2} \) hours this week and spent \(\frac{1}{3}\) of his time sweeping, how many hours did Larry spend sweeping?

I tried using decimals first but I got 13.833 and that only got me 13-5/6 as a mixed number. Can anyone help me solve this? The book said nothing about rounding my answer up.

[41 1/2] /3  ==13 + 5/6 hours - his working hours include fractions. So, what is wrong with having worked 5/6 of an hours ==5/6  x  60 minutes ==50 minutes.

So, he spent 13 hours and 50 minutes sweeping.
